 Tests on cystic fibrosis ends in positive reaction

A chemical used as a food preservative in curing bacon could hold the secret to beating the devastating lung condition cystic fibrosis.

Scientist has discovered that sodium nitrite appears to neutralise a bacterium called pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is responsible for lung filling up with excessive amount of mucus.

Dr Daniel Hassett of University of Cincinnati said, “We believe we have found the Achilles` heel of this formidable bug”.

However, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust said it would take sever years before it could be used.
